We have had a very exciting week here at re:create headquarters.
Multi-Grammy award winners Mac Powell and Mark Lee of Third Day will be here to lead worship. For the first time in several years, the Grammy Awards have not gotten in our way and Mac and Mark have graciously agreed to spend a morning with us. Yes, they are still nominated for a Grammy, but the awards are later this year!

Chonda Pierce has a new book
Comedian Chonda Pierce was supposed to be taking a winter break from her busy tour schedule. Instead, she had what she refers to as a winter breakdown. Falling physically ill in Miami at the end of her tour season, Pierce spent months in and out of emergency rooms, hospitals and clinics before being diagnosed as clinically depressed. What happens when the person who makes everyone happy isn’t happy?
Vividly describing her lack of feelings and emotions and her desire to literally cling to the carpet, Pierce chronicles her 18-month journey through the depths of depression and back into the light in LAUGHING IN THE DARK (Howard Books / A Division of Simon & Schuster; Hardcover; March 13, 2007; ISBN: 1-58229-641-3; $17.99).
Publisher’s Weekly says of LAUGHING IN THE DARK, “She breezily discusses this bout with depression, yet punctuated within the confines of every jest is the reality of deep despair and helplessness. Pierce’s message is both poignant and telling, markedly so for a Christian who makes her living making others laugh.”
Attributing her recovery to close friends, rest, Zoloft and therapy, Pierce shares intimate details about her life, while offering help and hope to those experiencing their own darkness. “I’m not a counselor…I’m a comedian. I know 132 different shades of gray, [but] I also know that life doesn’t have to be gray forever,” writes Pierce in LAUGHING IN THE DARK. “There was light at the end of my journey.”
In the U.S., approximately 7 million women are clinically depressed. In LAUGHING IN THE DARK, Pierce assures readers that “depression” is not a dirty word or evidence of weak faith. Each chapter includes:
∙A look into Chonda’s personal journey
∙Insights into the lessons learned while laughing in the dark (such as “Rehearse in the Dark What You Learned in the Light” and “Maintain, Maintain, Maintain!”)
∙Expert help and advice from a psychotherapist for those struggling with depression
With an audience of two million faithful fans and five gold-certified comedy albums, Chonda Pierce is the most requested guest artist for the Women of Faith Conferences. She has worked with Billy Graham, sells out most concerts on her schedule and has made the list of largest touring audiences in most entertaining magazines. Recently she has returned to touring and is depression free.
We look forward to hearing from Chonda Pierce!
